Random Wind on St. Maarten/St. Martin

Random Wind is a traditional sailboat; 54 ft length, cutter-rigged ketch and well maintained. Started in Taiwan and finished in South Africa, her strength and craftsmenship are just some of her positive attributes. She circum-navigated the world twice and then hoped to find retirement in St Maarten....... Wrong......! People loved her so much that Marten and Saskia started to get lots of them asking to take her out for the day. And so it started bit by bit that after some years they were doing 4 - 5 days per week and sharing great stories with the people who often turn friends. After running the business for 11 years, Marten and Saskia, with their two children, Skye and Sil, decided it was time for a change. On April 1st, 2007 they sold the business.  It is now run by Diane Morano Smith of the USA. She is the Managing Director and full-time hostess. She says her most enjoyable moments, aside from backflipping off the tarzan swing, are the sounds of laughter and splashing heard through the hatches as she is prepping the afternoon snacks. "I realize how great this is when I hear that."

Random Wind offers a lot of deck space, both in shade and sun. All seating surfaces are newly cushioned - they are really comfortable. After the 2011-2012 refit Random Wind now has 3 chill lounges. Every guest has a cushioned seat with a backrest! Our new stereo has speakers forward and aft and can play most anything you bring, The life-lines run the length of the boat port and starboard and are serious stainless steel for real safety. Below are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Across the 'living room' wall lies a beautiful relief wood carving of Table Mountain near Capetown, South Africa where the boat was fitted and finished in 1983.

Random Wind's Full-time Crew

Random Wind's full time Captain is Trevor John Williams. He is a wonderful sailor as well as a kind, gentle man. He is originally from England and has sailed most of his life. He is a Royal Yaching Association Yachtmaster and loves what he does.  We are happy to have him as our full time Captain and feel safe in his hands.

Diane Morano Smith is the Managing Director and full-time first mate/hostess. She is mom to her two children, Nathan and Caroline. She adores serving and chatting with people as she does the first-mates duties. Every day after serving lunch she does backflip off the bowsprit. Each time before flipping - she dedicates her toss. Dedications of late have been to Dustin and others serving in Iraq. To our friend Jack who watches over us from heaven. To vanity, in the hopes that it doesn't control us......... and of course, to these good times we share in the Caribbean Blue!

We also need time off so you may have other crew at times.

Good food and an open bar!

For lunch Diane usually makes Coconut Chicken with Rice, it is a bit sweet, mild and flavorful. If there is a small group or private charter - she may surprise you with something else. She adores cooking and makes most everything from scratch. There is usually a nice Green Salad and French Bread as well as an edible Fruit Garnish. We always have cookies and chocolates afterward. Sometimes not everything is available on the island so things may change. Diane would like to know of any serious food allergies as she sometimes will cook with shrimp, peanuts, etc. While she is not a short order cook and the galley cannot handle making several different meals; it is always best to mention serious food allergies when booking. She is lacto-ovo vegetarian and will always accommodate vegetarians as well. Usually for them it is the same as for others but with tofu - so yummy.

Our open bar starts the minute you board and doesn't stop until you are back on land. We don't push alcohol on anyone and believe in drinking responsibly, "to enhance the good time we are already having". We have cold beer and sodas, vodka, gin, rum, tequila and many juices and mixers as well as bottled water. Ask for top shelf at no extra cost. Some say we have the coldest beer in SXM!

No crowds on our ship

Check out our Paradise Day Sail or enjoy the boat for the day all to yourselves on a private charter with your family and/or friends!! We can take up to 22 but like to keep it to 16-18. You will never feel like one of the crowd with us – because there never is a crowd.
